Day 1

Day 1........?

Alright, here we are! The first day of my A-Term, "Finishing the Falcon". In reality, though, we have been doing intensive work over spring break for the last 5 or so days. Let me tell you, in those 5 days we have done more than we have managed to do in the last 8 years.

The moment the engine came to life!

For starters, we got the engine running! Now we knew the engine ran well after it was built and put on a dyno, but this was the first time it had ever run in the finished chassis of the car. The engine is a ford 289 block that has been turned into a 347 stroker and let me tell you.... it's loud. Within minutes the homeowners association was already protesting in our front driveway. But who cares? It sounds heavenly!

Today (Monday), we decided to turn down the loudness and crank the voltage. It was time to work on the wiring harness. This is essentially the series of wires that goes from the battery, all the way to the taillights, and everywhere in between. Because it was raining, we brought the three harnesses (Engine, Dash, and Trunk) inside to map and re-wrap. These wires were stripped from the car years ago so as you could imagine, it smelled like terrible ancient sweat. Truly gross.

The old wiring harness

Once we labeled every connector on the harness, we started re-wrapping with better electrical tape and wire loom cover to ensure that it will last for years. This lasted for about 5 hours as we went through every single inch of that harness and re-wrapped it. Im excited to eventually install it!
